Severin Freund underwent hip surgery

Severin Freund had an arthroscopic hip surgery on Wednesday in Munich (GER) and will now not be able to jump for a couple of months.

"The surgery went very well and was necessary. If the healing process progresses well, Severin will be able to start with the rehabilitation in about three to four weeks. Jumping training should be possible in about four months", said Dr. Michael Dienst after the surgery, a refixation of the acetabular labrum with suture anchors.

Problems already since early January

"After my fall in the 4-Hills-Tournament competition in Innsbruck the hip was always causing problems. The break during my vacation also didn't bring the improvement I had hoped for. On the contrary. It was still causing a painful movement restriction and so, after talking to our team doctor Dr. Mark Dorfmueller, I decided to solve this problem once and for all with a surgery. Right now I'm doing fine. I will now take all the time necessary for the healing process and the training in order to be completely fit again for the upcoming winter with the World Championships", the 28-year-old is quoted in a release of the German Ski Association.

After this recent diagnosis, head coach Werner Schuster once again praised the performances of his best athlete last winter. "According to all medical specialists this surgery was inevitable. Severin's performance and his mental strength after the fall in Innsbruck last season have to be rated even higher. Now it's important that he takes the time he needs to recover and for the rehabilitation. Severin had to struggle with injuries already various times during the course of his great career and he always proved that he can come back even stronger."
