Domen Prevc: "I trusted myself"

The FIS Ski Jumping World Cup 2016/17 started with a premiere on Friday evening in Ruka. Only 17-year-old Domen Prevc of Slovenia celebrated his first win in the World Cup ahead of Germany's Severin Freund and his older brother Peter.

Even before going to Finland, you said that you won't worry about what is going to happen. Now you probably don’t have any worries anymore?

Domen Prevc: I don’t worry at all, especially after this victory. It’s my first time on this jumping hill, my second time in Finland and my first time in Ruka. It’s a nice place and it's really winter here.

Describe your feelings after both jumps.

Prevc: I didn’t think a lot, I knew I’ve done what I had to and trusted myself. I made a mistake in the first jump. Mistakes still happen, these are still not the best jumps, there's still some room for improvement. But this is the start of the season, we’re jumping on snow for the first time and we still need to get feeling for the winter conditions , in order to show the best jumps.

Obviously you didn’t have any problems adjusting to jumping on snow.

Prevc: I don’t have problems like this. Our opponents also don’t have many jumps on snow yet. Maybe the Norwegians are an exception, but they too didn’t have excellent conditions. I think they did a great job in Kranj, where coaches and others prepared the ice track. Despite 10 °C, rain and humidity, we could still jump.

How did you experience Peter’s second jump?

Prevc: Honestly, when he was in the air I said: ‘’Here you go, it’s okay, great, I’m going to be second!’’ And then the fall happened. I was a bit worried at first, I didn’t think about the result, I just wondered if he’s okay. When I saw he was okay, I was really happy.

You’ve taken over your brothers yellow bib. Tomorrow you will compete in it.

Prevc: I’ve never thought about that, really. Never.
