Nordic Combined Meetings: FIS Youth Cup in the spotlight
The FIS Nordic Combined Sub-Committee meetings in Zurich (SUI) held sessions of the Nordic Combined Sub-Committee for Rules, Officials and Control and the Executive Board.

While the updates, calendar presentations and a thorough and constructive discussion of proposals were on the agendas of both meetings, the Sub-Committee for Rules, Officials and Control focused on the work of TDs and TD Assistants during last winter and the nomination of Officials for future events. The Executive Board spent an extended amount of time on the calendar planning and strategic direction for the future.

This focused mainly on the importance of the development of ladies’ Nordic Combined and the introduction of a third competition level below COC level to pave the way for younger athletes, both male and female.

The Sub-Committee will now compile an official set of rules and determine age groups which will be tested at the FIS Youth Cup in Oberstdorf in the Summer of 2015. The aim is to hold a FIS Youth Cup for boys and girls in the upcoming winter with three stops and the crowning of a first overall winner. The long-term goal is to introduce ladies’ Nordic Combined to the programme of the FIS Junior World Ski Championships in 2019.

All proposals from the meetings will be submitted to the National Ski Associations concerned, before the Nordic Combined Committee finalises proposals to submit to the FIS Council at its meetings during the FIS Calendar Conference in Varna from 3rd-6th June 2015.
