Right To Play Athlete Ambassadors visit Uganda
Former Alpine World Cup skier Marco Büchel (LIE) earlier this month joined Christoph Kunz (SUI, two-time Paralympic Champion monoski) and Anna Schaffelhuber (GER, five-time Paralympic Champion monoski) on a trip to Uganda as part of their roles as Right to Play Ambassadors.

Together with Right To Play Ambassadors from other sports, the group went to Uganda with the goal to teach life skills and values to disadvantaged children through sport and play. The group went to the western part of the country, starting in Mubende and then moved north to Hoima. In total, they reached five schools and community centres.

Uganda is one of the world's poorest countries. About 60% of the inhabitants live on less than two dollars per day. Most of the inhabitants have no access to clean water, electricity or a functioning sewage system. In the areas that were visited, the public schools are struggling with more than 100 students per teacher and a high dropout rate. These challenges make the Right to Play work especially important.

The trained to Right To Play Coaches use relay races, catch and ball games to teach basic skills and competencies: self-confidence, communication, mutual respect, teamwork and peaceful conflict resolution. These "Life Skills" are taught in a light-hearted way by the coaches and ambassadors.

Büchel said of the visit: "The laughing and beaming children have softened my heart. The trip to Uganda has once again demonstrated to me that my commitment to Right To Play is useful and that I can make a meaningful contribution to the life of these children."
