Lillehammer 2016 Coordination Commission visit

With just under 130 days to go to the 2nd Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer (NOR), this coming February, the Organisers presented their final preparations to the IOC Coordination Commission – of which FIS President Gian Franco Kasper is a member – this week. The young team vowed to combine elite sport competition with a festival atmosphere across the cities in a free event that they describe as “rocking the YOG”.

Highly constructive FIS Course Builder and Designer Clinic

The 2nd FIS Freestyle and Snowboard Course Builder and Designer Clinic was successfully held from 3rd-5th October at the headquarters of Prinoth, FIS Service Provider, in Sterzing (ITA).

The primary focus of the workshop was on education and training which will benefit the course designers and builders while incorporating the innovative technology found at the Prinoth Headquarters.

A detailed report will be published on the FIS Freestyle and FIS Snowboard channels.

International Athletes’ Forum in Lausanne

The 7th IOC International Athletes’ Forum will get underway on 8th October. The three days of discussions and practical sessions in Lausanne (SUI) will focus on topics relevant to athletes. The aim is to inspire and empower Athletes’ Commissions at all levels, as well as to showcase IOC initiatives intended to serve athletes. FIS will be represented by its Athletes’ Commission member Maxime Laheurte (FRA).

Ski Club of Great Britain research findings for snowsports industry

The Ski Club of Great Britain, the UK’s largest snowsports membership organisation, released findings from their annual consumer research report, which indicated a boost for the snow sports industry.

The report, offers insight into the habits, intentions and attitudes of people who participate in snowsports, both in the UK and abroad. It also offers some understanding of the state of the market and the likelihood for growth or decline in its size.
