Solitude celebrates debut as World Cup host

With a successful World Cup opener in the books, the fastest snowboarders on the planet have descended on Solitude (USA) for the 2016-17 snowboard cross World Cup season's second stop.

It's the first time in history that the host of the 2019 sbx world championships races is running World Cup competitions. However, the debut as a World Cup host features an individual snowboard cross race as well as a team event from January 19 to 22.

The sole sbx stop of the 2017 Toyota U.S. Grand Prix tour is this year's marquee snowboard event in Utah with the hosting nations sbx roster hoping to keep the momentum from the World Cup opener in Montafon (AUT).

While four-time world champion Lindsey Jacobellis (USA) has already a podium finish under her belt (3rdin Montafon), all eyes are on Hagen Kearney (USA) in the men's event as the current Park City resident is fresh off his career's first secured in his 28th World Cup start earlier this season.

But 2014 Olympic gold medallists Eva Samkova (CZE) and Pierre Vaultier (FRA), who is also the 2016 Crystal Globe winner as well as 2015 reigning world champion Luca Matteotti (ITA) together with his team mate and World Cup title defender Michela Moioli are keen to snatch their first podium finish of the season, too.
