The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has partially upheld an appeal by the International Ski Federation (FIS) against Norwegian Cross-Country Skier Therese Johaug and the Adjudication Committee of the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sport (Decision 10th February 2017).

The case concerned the presence of the prohibited substance clostebol in a sample collected out-of-competition on 16th September 2016.  The FIS fully respects the decision of CAS to extend the suspension of Therese Johaug to 18 months from 18th October 2016 (date of provisional suspension). As a consequence of the decision, Ms. Johaug will be eligible to return to competition on 18th April 2018.

FIS is satisfied that an independent body had the opportunity to review all of the facts of this case and render an impartial verdict, which was the reason for FIS filing the appeal to CAS. This ensured that a fair and just decision for all parties could be determined in this case.
