New Year’s Message by the FIS President
Dear Ski Friends,

Welcome to 2015, a year that is sure to be filled with many highlights for FIS. The year is already off to a great start as Central Europe finally received some much-needed snow, giving our upcoming Organisers the perfect way to being the New Year.

Naturally, we are all looking forward to three exciting World Championships that are sure to be the highlights of the year. In less than two weeks, the world’s best freestyle skiers and snowboarders will converge on Kreischberg (AUT) for the first ever combined FIS Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding World Championship. Having everyone together and with 24 medal events in 10 days, there are sure to be many memorable moments. I would especially like to thank the Austrian Ski Association and the Organising Committee for taking on the challenge of being the first to host such a joint World Championship.

In February, the skiing world’s attention will shift to North America, where the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships will be staged. It is the third time that the charming towns of Vail and Beaver Creek have hosted the World Championships, and every time the Organisers make it a bigger and better event. After the final inspection last autumn and the successful World Cup races there in December, I can say that we anticipate this edition of the World Championships being a fantastic event for athletes and fans alike.

Last, but certainly not least of the three World Championships, are the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun (SWE). The Organisers in Sweden have been innovative since the day they were elected and now it is finally time to enjoy the fruits of their efforts. The top Cross-Country, Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined athletes will be treated to both a traditional Nordic atmosphere that will be commmunicated with great technological innovations.

Our World Championships are evidence that skiing is popular all around the globe. I am particularly proud that in a six-week span, Central Europe, North America and Scandinavia will all play host to our most important events.

I wish everyone a good start to 2015. I hope ski fans and athletes enjoy their time on and off the slopes, tracks and jumps.
