World Cup returns to Rogla
Just one week after the FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships wrapped up at Kreischberg, the World Cup tour picks up speed again with a parallel giant slalom in Rogla scheduled for January 31st.
For the third consecutive year, the Slovenian winter sport resort will host some thrilling head-to-head duels on the 450 metres long Jasa course.
While everybody is hoping for some better weather than 2014, when riders had to race in pouring rain and foggy conditions, there are a few alpine snowboarders who have very pleasant associations with the event slope, including some newly crowned world title holders.
PGS world champion Ester Ledecka (CZE, PSL) won her career's first in Rogla last year; just like Lukas Mathies (AUT), the defending overall world cup title winner.
PSL world champion Roland Fischnaller (ITA) clinched the World Cup debut of Rogla back in 2013, the year in which Claudia Riegler (AUT), the winner of the 2015 PGS world title, brought home her last world cup podium finish.
“I like the hill and have already proven to be fast on it,” said the 41-year-old racer from Flachau.
Riegler and all other stars of the scene can look forward to a big crowd in the finish area.
While many fans of 2015 PSL WCS bronze medallist Rok Marguc (SLO) who calls the resort his home mountain and teammate Zan Kosir (SLO), the early season orange bib-holder and 2015 PGS silver medallist, are expected to cheer for their local heroes, also a lot of Austrians have announced to support their national team.
Yellow bib-holder (PGS) Marion Kreiner (AUT), who is residing some 60 car minutes away from the venue in Graz, explained: “A lot of fans from Styria who have been at the world championships will come. I want to defend my world cup lead, so there is only 'pedal to the metal.'”

The qualifiers will kick off things at 9:30 AM CET with the finals (single run format) taking place at 1:30 PM CET.
Besides ORF Sport+ (1:25 PM CET) also ARD (2 PM CET) will broadcast the knock out rounds live
