FIS awarded for Legacy & Environment
Yesterday, it was announced that FIS won the inaugural SportBusiness Ultimate Sports Federation Award in the category of Legacy & Environment.

The award was presented to FIS President Gian Franco Kasper at the 2015 SportAccord Convention in Sochi (RUS).

“I am very proud that FIS was recognised for its environmental efforts in the first year of this award,” said Kasper. “Being an outdoor winter sport, sustainability is a very important theme and something that we, and our Organisers, take very seriously.”

FIS secured the Legacy/Environment award, with judges highlighting that FIS recognises environmental sustainability as part of the organisation’s Statutes. The judges added that hosts must conform with environmental protection guidelines and that FIS has very good guidelines in place containing tangible best practice.

The judging panel was comprised of 13 industry experts and included head judge Rachael Church (SportBusiness Intelligence), Peter Cox (Sport New Zealand), Lars Vallentin Christensen (Wonderful Copenhagen), Paul Dunphy (SportBusiness Intelligence), Abimbola Ilo (Integral, Nigeria), Paul Freudensprung (bcn events), Iain Edmondson (London & Partners), Ann Duffy (Ann Duffy Group) and Emy Ritt (Paris 2018 Gay Games).

The process involved analysing an initial cut of 30 International Federations and Associations and then asking them to complete a detailed survey across the nine key categories. These surveys were then analysed by a panel of external judges who are all experts in their respective fields. The results will create a benchmark of excellence for International Federations and foster industry best practices through the learnings generated by the Awards.

Head judge Rachael Church, Major Events Consultant at SportBusiness Intelligence, said: “We have been overwhelmed with the excellent response to these inaugural SportBusiness Ultimate Sports Federations awards which we are confident will be on a par with the long-established SportBusiness Ultimate Sports Cities Awards and Rankings in terms of creating an industry best practice benchmark and invaluable learnings.”
