FIS President Gian Franco Kasper and Secretary General Sarah Lewis are currently attending the fifth visit of the IOC’s Coordination Commission for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

The meeting is an opportunity for the full Commission, of which Kasper is a member, to discuss with PyeongChang 2018 Organising Committee the progress that has been made over the past since the last Commission visit last March.

During the visit, the Commission members looked at a number of different areas of POCOG’s work including services for the athletes, International Federations and media; sport; venues; transport; marketing; people management; legacy; education; technology; and the Paralympic Games. The Commission also visited a number of the venues in the mountain cluster, including the Alpine Skiing downhill course at Jeongsong.

The ongoing work preparing for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games plays an important role for each of the FIS disciplines, as well as the general organisational aspects collaborating closely with the IOC. Last week the FIS Race Directors from Alpine, Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding were in Korea for the pre-test event inspections.

Next season the first FIS World Cup competitions, which will serve as official PyeongChang 2018 Test Events, will take place in February 2016 with competitions in Alpine Skiing, Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard and both the construction work on the courses, as well as the organisational aspects are moving forward.

In addition to the meetings in PyeongChang, during her trip to Asia Sarah Lewis also took the chance to meet with the Chinese Ski Association and officials from the Chinese Olympic Committee in view of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing,. The meeting was the first introduction for the seven-year process that awaits the newly-elected Olympic hosts.
