New President to lead PyeongChang 2018
Yang-ho Cho announced his resignation as President of the Organising Committee for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang (KOR) on 3rd May 2016 after serving almost two years in the position. Cho will devote his full attention to the stability of Hanjin Shipping, one of the large businesses in the family company (read more here).

A former government minister, Hee Boom Lee has been nominated by the POCOG Executive Board to take over the post. Hee Beom Lee, 65, an engineer by education and once Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy has also served as a chancellor, president of economic organisations, and CEO of major companies. Most recently, Lee was Vice Chair and CEO of LG International (read more here).

According to a statement by the PyeongChang 2018 Organising Committee, the General Assembly will meet on 12th May to ratify the decision and officially appoint Lee as the new President, after which the decision will need to be approved by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Gian Franco Kasper FIS President stated: “We would like to thank President Cho for his commitment to the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. The collaboration with him was first class, notable in delivering last season’s FIS World Cup competitions in Jeongseon and Bokwang.”

Sarah Lewis, FIS Secretary General added: “The POCOG team can count on the full engagement of FIS in supporting the organisation and preparations for PyeongChang 2018. Even during the transition period for the organisation, the FIS technical experts will continue with the ongoing work as scheduled in order to be ready for the upcoming Test Events and the Games themselves.”
