This summer, the Olympic Results Information Service (ORIS) is being thoroughly reviewed and tested during individual sessions for each of the six FIS Olympic disciplines in PyeongChang (KOR).

The ORIS system is based on a consultative process between the IOC, the International Federations and the Organising Committee to ensure accurate and timely results and Games information is geared to meet the needs of the global media broadcasting and reporting from the Games.

Since the beginning of this week, FIS professionals in each discipline together with the FIS IT experts have gathered with the ORIS experts, PyeongChang 2018 Results Team and representatives of the Olympic time-keeper OMEGA and Olympic technology partner ATOS to ensure a smooth delivery of the competition information. The reviews have focused in particular on confirming that the Olympic competition results and information services will be according to the valid International Competition Rules for each FIS discipline.

The FIS delegation and ORIS team are currently homologating the system for Cross-Country Skiing, Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping with Alpine Skiing coming up next week and Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding scheduled for early July.

FIS IT Manager Daniel Defago commented: “The ORIS homologation tests are giving all stakeholders the assurance that every possible case is covered by the results, data and information system. During the intensive tests, we are stressing the system for every possible competition scenario, such as three gold medals or re-runs. The tests are also a great opportunity to meet the sport and the technologies entities together. These sessions are very important for team building, so we are most efficient and collaborative during Games-time.”
