Wells and Summerhayes Junior World Champions in Halfpipe
After an idle day yesterday at the FIS Freestyle Junior World Championships, the action was back on in Valmalenco (ITA) with the men’s and ladies‘ halfpipe competitions.

The snow rolled in just in time for the event, making for tougher than expected conditions. But nevertheless the athletes put on an excellent show as Beau-James Wells (NZL) and Molly Summerhayes (GBR) took home bragging rights.

Wells’ first run proved to be the gold medal winning effort as his score of 90.80 could not be touched by any of his fellow competitors. Jake Mageau (USA) scored an 82.80, also on his first run of the day, to take the silver medal, while Birk Irving (USA) snuck onto the podium thanks to his strong showing on his final run.

On the ladies side, Summerhayes scored a 71.40 on her second run, which was enough to secure the gold medal. Coming in second placeValeria Demidova (RUS) with a score of 65.80 and rounding out the podium was Anna Gorham (USA) just one point behind.

The Junior World Championships have one medal event left, with ski cross closing the championships on Wednesday. Tomorrow there are no medal events.
