Retirements in Freestyle Skiing

It has been a fairly quiet off-season thus far in Freestyle Skiing, with few athlete retirements. Many nations have only finished their final National Championship competitions in the past week, and dozens of athletes are still taking to social media to post photos from the pistes as they turn the spring of 2015/16 into the training ground for 2016/17.

The Canadians have a handful of athletes stepping away from competition. Moguls skiers Pascal-Olivier Gagne and Clare Lambert have both elected to retire, while their compatriot in ski cross Louis-Pierre Helie is also hanging up his skis.

Gagne was the veteran of 27 FIS World Cup competitions, with his lone podium coming at Inawashiro (JPN) in 2014. He was injured at the first event of last season in Ruka (FIN) and did not return to competition for the rest of the season. 21-year-old Lambert, meanwhile, only competed in four World Cups, but has chosen to leave the ski life behind to focus on her schooling. And, finally, Helie, coming off the strongest Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup season of his career, has decided to settle down and focus his energy on his family.
