Herola leads big Finnish team 2016/17
The Finnish Ski Association announced the national teams for the important 2016/17 season with the home World Championships in Lahti coming up in February.

To give as many athletes as possible the chance to compete on the World Cup and close the gap to team leader Ilkka Herola, the A-team has been extended to eight athletes who almost all have scored World Cup points in the past.

„We have a pretty big national team now“, head coach Petter Kukkonen commented, „usually we would have a group of six at this point. Now it is eight athletes so there is a broad and exclusive squad preparing for the Championships. It will be possible for many athlete to show their skills and get a spot on the World Cup team.“

In terms of the preparation, Kukkonen also gave some hints as to how the training plan is going to look like: „ There’s one camp 90 days before the start of the World Cup and the athletes will be together from then on through summer and autumn. Jumping will be the main focus in addition to basic training with a clear focus on our big goal. With better jumping, we will be able to improve the team’s results.“
