If you are not living Down Under it’s not always easy to find snow for training. FIS Cross-Country partner xc-ski.de has brought an overview of where to ski in the summer.

Since 2009 the best location for the Cross-Country Skiing in the summer is the Ski hall in Oberhof. The ski hall offers 1,8 km long course with the stable temperature of -4C. Austria

Ramsau and Dachstein. The village in the Styria region belongs to the most popular Cross-Country Skiing destinations. The Dachstein glacier is usually quite crowded. The glacier lies in the altitude of 2.900 m and is accessible with a gondola. The 5 km long course is prepared and maintained during the whole summer. After the first snowfall in September it is usually possible to ski on a 10 km loop. More information: www.derdachstein.at

Pitztal glacier. Since a few years, starting from September,  it has been possible to ski on the Pitztal glacier. There is a course 3 - 7 km long long in the altitude of 2.740 m. To get there you can use the glacier express. More information: www.pitztaler-gletscher.at

Kitzsteinhorn. Every autumn a 3 km long course opens on the top of Kitzsteinhorn. More information: www.kitzsteinhorn.at.

Switzerland

Les Diablerets. The only possibility for Cross-Country skiing in the summer in Switzerland is Les Diablerets glacier with 3 km long loop. The course is open from mid-May until early October and reopens at the end of October. More information: www.glacier3000.ch

Italy

Val Senales. Very popular training resort in the high altitude. Lodging is located in the 2.000 m altitude and the course 900 m higher up. There are 2 km and 5 km long loops. The season starts in early October. More information: www.valsenales.com

Passo dello Stelvio. There are two loops on the glacier, which can be used also during the summer. More information: www.passostelvio.biz

Norway

Sognefjellet. Sognefjellet is the only place in Norway, where it is possible ski on natural snow in the summer. Usually, it is possible to ski here until the end of August. The venue is located in the altitude of 1400 m. More information: www.sognefjellet.no

Sweden

Göteborgs Nya Arena. In 2015 a new ski hall opened in Göteborg, the second biggest city of Sweden. The ski hall is part of a hotel and training facility. Skiers can train on a 1.2 km long loop. More information: nordicwellness.se/skidome

Ski tunnel Torsby. The oldest ski tunnel in Sweden is located in Torsby. The venue is situated 400 km westwards from Stockholm at the border with Norway. The indoor loop is 1.3 km long. More information: www.skitunnel.se

Finland

Ski tunnel Vuokatti. In Vuokatti you will find the first ever ski tunnel in the world. The tunnel is 1.200 m long. More information: www.vuokattisport.fi

Vesileppis. A short ski hall is located underneath a spa hotel. From the lobby you can take the elevator to the tunnel, which is approx. 900 m long. More information: www.vesileppis.fi

Russia

Training centre Toksovo near St. Petersburg offers a Cross-Country and biathlon training facilities with a ski tunnel. It is 750 long and 8 m wide. The tunnel is skiable in both directions. There is a maximum 18% climb and 22,5 total climb. More information: www.utc-kavgolovo.ru

Australia

Falls Creek lies in the Victoria state in Australia and is one of the most known Cross-Country Skiing resorts in Australia. Kangaroo Hoppet takes place here every year. More information: http://www.fallscreek.com.au/

New Zealand

Argentina

Ushuaia. On the very south of the South America lies a peninsula Tierra del Fuego. Ushuaia offers good skiing conditions in the summer. Every August two popular competitions are organised here, Marchablanca and Ushuaia Loppet. More information: http://www.ushuaialoppet.com/

USA​

Eagle Glacier is in a spectacular setting 5,000 feet high in the Chugach Mountains, southeast of Anchorage. A 10-minute helicopter ride takes athletes from sea level to lovely spring skiing conditions on the glacier. Once on location the athletes have up to 9 kilometers of groomed trails! Athletes live in a dormitory style house within minutes of the ski trails. The Thomas Training Center is operated on Chugach National Forest under special use permit.
