Marit Bjørgen and Petter Northug Jr. won Toppidrettsveka 2014
Norway’s Cross-Country Skiing super stars won the overall standing of Toppidrettsveka 2014 as both dominated the last stage, pursuit race on Saturday.

Marit Bjørgen opened the last race, 15 km classic pursuit with an advantage of 25 sec. During the race the Norwegian ace could build up the gap to 1:33 min. The battle for second was open until the last meters of the competition. Youngster Heidi Weng could bridge a gap on currently second Therese Johaug and out sprinted her in the finishing straight. Barbro Kvåle won the sprint for fourth.

Northug back in shape

Petter Northug proofed he had trained a lot and showed a great summer shape. However, it was Simen Østensen who started as first skier in 15 km classic pursuit. Petter Northug got underway 12 second behind and Eldar Rønning started 17 back. Øystein Pettersen was another 3 seconds behind. The four skiers soon formed a powerful train in the front and were leading the pack. Before the finish Østensen fell back and there was a three way finish where Petter Northug showed his strength and edged out to second place Eldar Rønning. Øystein Pettersen took finished in third.
