

Already for the fifth time amateur Cross-Country skiers will have a unique chance to live the emotional Final Climb of Tour de Ski in front of more than 20.000 spectators, a few minutes before the great World Cup athletes.

Traditionally the Opening race in Sölden marks the official beginning of a new World Cup season and provides a first taste of winter wonderland for ski fans around the world. Unfortunately, nature sometimes has it’s own plans and in 2006 when the Sölden race had to be cancelled due to lack of snow, the ski world had to adapt accordingly. This year, Sölden has once again been hit by warm temperatures in the lead up to the event but the hard work the OC put in to preserve the course paid off and today the 2014 races were confirmed.

The third Coordination Committee Group meeting for the 2017 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti (FIN) was staged last Friday 10 th October 2014 as the Local Organising Committee presented its current status report and upcoming plans to the Group.

Matthias Mayer, the Austrian downhill Olympic Champion from Sochi 2014 has suffered a has suffered a medial ligament tear in his right knee and a bruised spine after a fall earlier today during giant slalom training on the Pitztal Glacier. Mayer will not be at the start of the World Cup Opener in Soelden.

The meetings and presentations are finished and now it is full speed ahead for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, as Falun (SWE) was given the green light from the FIS Coordination Group following the Final Inspection on Monday 12th and Tuesday, 13th October 2014.

FIS officials traveled to the land of the rising sun to check the hill for the two parallel events scheduled in Asahikawa in late February 2015.
